Welcome to The Memory of Swiss Wines

Meet Andreas Keller, the co-founder of La Mémoire des Vins Suisses (The Memory of Swiss Wines) who dedicated his professional life to raising the awareness and reputation of Swiss fine wines both in Switzerland and internationally.

The prized fine wines of the world are familiar to every wine amateur and receive regular coverage from wine writers and critics. However, when it comes to smaller or less familiar countries, a lack of reputation, scale and familiarity means their best wines struggle to get noticed.

In Switzerland, to address all these challenges, four wine journalists devised a most original solution some 20 years ago. Not only is the idea rather remarkable, but also potentially unique in the entire world of wine.

Welcome to La Mémoire des Vins Suisses (The Memory of Swiss Wines) – an association of producers and experts dedicated to raising the awareness and reputation of Swiss fine wines both in Switzerland and internationally.

In 2002, the four founders invited the best Swiss wine producers from the six regions of the country to come together and create a true memory bank of their best wines, a central library of the finest and most age-worthy wines from Switzerland. 25 winemakers registered at the start, today there are 57 contributors.

To find out more about the origins of La Mémoire des Vins Suisses and how far the association has come already, I have interviewed one of the four founders, Andreas Keller.

In the foothills of the Alps, the alpine terroir is characterised by a cold and snowy winter climate, relatively high altitude vineyards and often steep slopes with many native grape varieties rarely found elsewhere. With a proven history of wine production dating back to Roman times, Alpine wines are a hidden treasure in the heart of Europe. This film series highlights the Alpine wine regions of Switzerland, Italy and France.
